I am wondering what the relationship is between PURLs and so-called permanent links to either documents (like articles in databases) or metadata (information about books in OPACs). Are the above examples PURLs, or something else? If Google books has the book as well, does it use a PURL?
On a semi-related note, Wikipedia uses DOIs.
